Keep getting this message -- What is Data Execution Prevention?

I keep getting this error message and asking to close IE down. I have restarted and it is stilll happening. Any ideas what it is and how to stop it?

I am on Vista and just updated with SP2.

Thank you

  • Try using Internet Explorer with no add-ons and see if the DEP message comes up.

Thanks I off just off out for the morning but will try when I get back.
  • Just as a warning, getting this message was the first sign that my computer was badly infected with malware. :(

Download malwarebytes and do a scan.
  • Thanks guys.

Done as you both said and additionally run my anti virus and restarted and this time SO FAR it is OK. Perhaps I should stick to Firefox:confused:
  • So, Internet Explorer running with No Add-ons worked with no problems?

If yes, you need to start the process of discovering which add on is causing the problem and either updating it or disabling it completely.

is it a specific website that causes it?
one of the main suspects is sites that use flash ads

That's the intention of running in No Add-ons mode, but in doing so were you able to use Internet Explorer as you should do or was the message still appearing?

    Hi

sorry to hijack this thread but I have exactly the same problem........

in Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools then Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
it says explorer is running with no add ons......... but when i click on "manage add on" there are several clearly enabled, mainly stuff for Adobe and google which have been there for ages and nothing installed recently which might have caused my problem.
What can i do now ? Will these programmes run if I disable all the add ons?
