  • My friends smoke roll ups and get their tobacco from the bins outside pubs.

Don't do that. My grandma used to re roll tobacco and died of lung cancer.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I don't think it was just down to the fact the the tobacco was re-rolled. Smoking sets you well on your way to lung cancer whether rolled once or more - but you all know that anyway.
  • Move to PAYG in December on the phones and use them sparingly, even £35/month is wayyyy too high, get that right down!

Can you get a cheaper car?
You could probably buy one for £141!!
Well maybe not since the scrappage scheme.
A bike for the job centre me thinks :O)
You could also perhaps use it for a lot of other journeys, work might be a bit too
    far especially in this weather.
You might also consider electronic cigarettes, which would I think be cheaper assuming you can get off the real ones, I got one but I have not had much success with it really but I have not put a lot of effort into it really, plus the juice I got might be too strong although you can cut it down. (It's all gets very technical).
I actually get my tobacco 'bootleg' so about half the price in the shops, does not sound like you smoke much if you pay shops prices of £50 a month.

There are 3 costs, the juice, the atomiser and the batteries however you can get something to power it off a USB port so that would save on batteries a lot if you don't smoke outside a lot.
For me I estimate a months supply of juice (for me) is $18 and atomiser should last a variable time, at least a month is $7 batteries are $10.
So if I could get the cost mainly juice and atomisers that would be about $25 a month or about £15, now if I was buying tobacco in the shops I would be spending about £100 a moth or more. Problem is I can't get used to it :rotfl:
But even if I could use it 1/4 of the time I would save money.
Also supposed to be healthier and no smoke so you can smoke inside, also no paper or filters to buy.
Cheapest is to buy from China

There are UK suppliers but they are more expensive, especially for juice.
    There is also a forum
    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/
with lots of info (lots to learn) but I think there are a lot of suppliers there who might talk them up a bit. I had a problem with a UK supplier too the Electronic Cigarette Company, he sent me a faulty USB device and he won't refund me  (He also runs 'Totally Wicked' another of his companies).
However for me at the moment it feels as if there is 'something missing'.

Also people used to survive quite successfully before mobile phones, do you really neeed to walk down the street with a phone hanging out of your ear? ;)
Toffs laying into the less well off? Surely not!! :naughty:

Okay first of all please try and relax a minute. You have really come to the right place for help and advice. Everyone on here knows how you feel it doesnt matter what amount you owe, its the same for us all. What you need to know, and I beleive this now, is that it will be okay, you will find a solution and you will be okay. Is the 170.00 for car insurance? Can you get cheaper quotes? You said you cant quit smoking? I know its hard. Can you try? Can your parents help? Have you got a repayment plan with them at the moment? Can you tell them that you are in a mess at the moment and you are struggling. I am sure both parents would not want you to feel like this and if they knew how you are feeling at the moment perhaps they can suspend the debt for a while. I know its difficult telling them you are in a mess but I am sure they would rather you tell them than let it worry you like this.

The 170 is for car insurance, we only took it out in July. I guess I could requote?

The 140 is for a loan with my bank, but it was taken out to pay of existing other debts and for the car.

Our parents have *frozen* the debt at the minute, so not having to repay them but I feel so bad already.

The thing is, I have a long history of depression - started when I was 13. I have only been away from anti depressants and councilling for 6 months. So I'm trying to cope with all the other crazy stuff my mind creates that makes me feel down, and this on top. I'm doing well but some days it just feels like there is no hope and no way out.

Just to say as well I don't mean to offend or insult anyone by feeling bad about my situation, I know lots of people are much worse off and have much bigger debts. I guess theres no one else I can talk to.

We are trying to give up smoking, as someone above said - £50 is already good, we get our stuff from asda and between the 2 of us its a really good achievement. We are trying to give up so that £50 is getting cheaper, plus we have someone who is comming back from a holiday and is going to get us some duty free stuff that will save us about £20 for one month.

Thank you all for replying by the way, I've tried loads of places and I just got blamed and "told off".

There is lots of good advice here.

One extra thing though - don't be so hard on yourself! You work hard and are 'keeping' both yourself and your boyfriend (I hope he appreciates it) and studying at the same time. You are very young, and that is a lot for a young person to keep up, so well done!

And well done in paying off your credit card too!

Karma - welcome on board. You have done the right thing asking for help. Keep up the studying as that is your future you are working for. Try and post on here a Statement of Affairs (see stickies at top of forum) as it will include things you may have missed and also give details of your specific debts so that people on here can advise where you can cut costs, increase income and what to try and pay off first. And I think it is good that you have managed to cut down the smoking, but suggest you get help from your GP surgery to quit totally. Apart from the usual health and social reasons for not smoking, do you really want to carry on squandering £50 a month just for the privilege of shoving a bunch of dead leaves in your mouth and setting fire to them? Think about it.

You can sort this out, it will just take some time and work to do so, and you will be better off at the end of it - hang in there.

I would get rid of mobile contracts as there is no point in them. Use pay as you go, so you know your limit.

Give up smoking, Not easy I know.

Eat cheaply, tuna pasta, supermarket basics, buy in bulk and budget ect.

Just until you get back up on your feet.

    Hi

Have you approached the gym and asked them if there are any options to reduce your payments, some gyms allow you to suspend you membership and this only costs say £10 p/m which would be a huge help.

Is there anyway you can reduce the number of car journeys you do, maybe catch the bus or walk more or even car share.

This time of year your other half should be applying for all the temp shelf stacking jobs going get him to visit every shop in your town, start with the supermarkets and argos and then work down to the £ shops everyone needs extra staff.

    Good luck
