VAIO fan replacement

Can anyone recommend a VAIO repair shop that will replace my VAIO fan? Its started making a funny noise after I opened up the laptop to remove the dust. The VAIO is outside its manufacturers warranty now.

Anyone know if the VAIO repair centre's work comes with a warranty?

oh dear, any idea what you did to it? would it not be worth a quick look to see its not something silly like some dust or hair tangled in it?

otherwise, sony will charge you an absolute fortune for any repair, ive owned alot of makes and ive never known such hurrendous charges, £260 for a new keyboared for me, not inc VAT or delivery:eek:

£20 off ebay for me, fitted it myself, and its original sony part, right numbers and eveerything, just worth a check:confused:
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • Why warranty a £5 part?

My laptop was getting warm very quickly and the fan was spinning quickly while idle, so I opened up the laptop, removed the heat sink and cleaned the attached vents. After putting everything back together again, the core temperature had dropped by about 10 degrees. Soon afterwards when the fan was spinning slowly it would make a grinding type of noise but when it went into a high spin it sounded normal.

At the moment the fan makes the same type of grinding noise both on low & high spin. However occasionally it doesn't make any unusual noises and sounds perfectly healthy. I have presumed that it's probably a bearing in the fan that's on its last legs. I have had the laptop for about 2.5 years and while its never been dropped / mishandled, I guess all moving parts have a life span.
    Why warranty a £5 part?

I didn't particularly want a warranty for the part but instead the whole process i.e. if the noise reappears again within e.g. a year will they fix it for free.
  • Well just take out the fan and soak in WD40 or drop some light lub. on the bearings, or replace the fan.
