maybe they are slimmed down versions, on just a couple of disks rather than the 6 discs the original box set has ???

The promotion editions are identical to the normal ones (at least they were when I bought a couple of Buffy box sets last year) - I think that Play just use it as a way of limiting the number that they sell at the special price (if you do a search on their site, you'll find the 24 box sets at the 'normal' reduced price of £32.99)

I don't want to be acused of talking to myself, but I may be incorrect regarding the 'promotion edition' - looking at the description, the £17.99 sets aren't available until the 24th Jan, so they may be diffrerent to the regular editions. ???
