Hi,
My daughter has an ASUS EEE laptop. It's 1 year old and last night my daughter complained that the screen had a black line on it but she didn't know how or why?
Tonight it's just been turned on and it looks like black scribbles (like its been drawn on?) but no-one has been near it?!
Advice welcome, thanks

to add;
its like black vertical lines, as in if you were using "paint program" and scribbled with fine pointed black lines. The total area is about the length and width of 2 matches.pinkpinkfizz

Sounds like either a screen fault (dead or stuck pixels) or dirt stuck inside the screen assembly.
If its dirt you should be able to see it standing out from the lcd panel by peering at it from the side and moving your head. It should move slightly in relation to the screen underneath. As for getting it out, i dont know.
If its stuck pixels then you could try finding a program on the internet that rapidly switches the pixels on and off in an attempt to unfreeze them.
Also, try changing the screen resolution, and maybe reinstalling the graphics drivers, if your lucky it could just be a malfunctioning display driver.
EDIT: Just had a thought, try gently squeezing the edges of the screen assembly (not the screen itself) at various points. If the lines change/disappear or anything weird happens to the screen like it turning a shade of pink then you have loose connections in the screen, best to get a replacement if its still under guarentee, although i had a laptop that did something similar and it lasted for years with me just gently squeezing the screen border when it started up.0
