Barclays bank incompetence

Is there any way to take a bank to court just for being incompetent?

Am I serious? I don't even know myself! Probably not. But at least I can vent my anger here!

I applied for a mortgage in a branch in August. All the paperwork was checked and submitted correctly.

4 weeks ago I was asked for one missing piece of information and told I would have a mortgage offer within 24-48 hours.

2 weeks ago I finally received a mortgage offer, but the offer had a typo on it, which my solicitor claims is too serious to be ignored. Since then I have phoned almost every day (today I'm still on the phone one and half hours later - and this is not the first call today). Every time I phone I'm promised that yes they understand. Yes it will be processed. Yes I will have the corrected offer on my desk delete as appropriate tomorrow before midday/within 2 hours/within 24 hours/within 48 hours.

Never does it arrive.

From the money saving point of view the longer it takes the less time I spend on repayments.:money:

  • If I was you I would look for it elsewhere - You have only applied for your morgage and they are already duffing it up. I certainly wouldn't want to be stuck in a contract with them
    Debts: Gym £[strike]465.75[/strike] Student account [strike]£1039.88[/strike] Overdraft [strike]£129.00[/strike] Credit Card [strike]£2772.22[/strike] Loan [strike]£6222.01 [/strike]

But they are giving me a 0.69% interest rate, which probably makes the process worth the hassle. Feeling a lot calmer this morning.

  • When i got my mortgage with another company, i asked Barclays to move my deposit from my account over to the account of the solicitor to pay the deposit for me. I needed to do it the same/next day and paid a fee to do it! 2 days later it still had not been done! I had to go and sit in the branch for 2 hours to be told that it would take another day! they refused to offer any compensation but refunded the fee i had paid. I almost lost the house because of their incompetence!

Do not use Barclays for anything other than a bank account! They will just mess it up!
