What's this with blaming your neighbour, what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty. Have you a shred of evidence that your neighbour took the parcel!

Not sure how you can say what was in the parcel. How can you be sure it came from USA? I realise you may only be expecting one parcel, but that's not really proof.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

If you believe theft is involved then there is only one way to deal with theft - report it to the police, get a case number and then look to see if you are insured for items being stolen from you.

You have a fragile case against the postman, he can easily say that you answered and opened the door from inside and told him to leave it outside for you. In such a situation I don't believe the Royal Mail will accept any liability.

You could accuse your neighbour and report it to the police but the evidence is non existent so all that will do is aggravate your neighbour.

I would recommend it be taken on the chin as an expensive lesson. Don't release the outer door for anyone unless you can go straight there to meet them.

thanks everyone, I wouldnt dream of claiming from the seller, it's not his fault. I will try claiming from royal mail as it is correct that I did not recieve the item , I never even got to touch it! ...Will I be able to claim for this from royal mail even if the item came from america? (through ebay)

The thing is that the seller is the one who had the contract with Royal Mail (ie they paid Royal Mail to deliver it to you) so if you want to pursue Royal Mail you will need to let the seller know so that they can process the claim. If you contact Royal Mail, they will most likely not deal with you at all as you could be anyone claiming not to have received something. I'm not sure how it works with the change of hands between the US postal service and ours, but if you don't let the seller know that you haven't received the item, then you will probably end up with nothing.

Unless the parcel was sent recorded delivery Royal Mail have little liability to refund the cost of missing mail. If it was sent recorded, you claim against the seller and the seller claims against Royal Mail.
