Boiler breakdown

Was switching from BG to E-on for our boiler servicing and had an inspection carried out by the E-on engineer today. He has condemned our boiler due to a cracked combustion case, says it has been like it awhile. BG inspected this boiler in Feb' 09 said everything was fine, how do I stand about claiming from BG for not spotting this dangerous fault?

I would take photographs and inform bg. I would then ask for a senior tech engineer to call around to look at boiler.
This is not something that should of been missed on a service inspection.
What is it you want to claim from bg?
They may repair it as a goodwill, But its about proof. Bg may turn around and say it was fine when checked.0 -
This may just be a matter of professional opinion or there may be a clearly defined problem. Just becuase Eon man says X,doesnt mean its the definitive answer. It would be nice to have a pic of said crack/problem along with make/model of boiler.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Perhaps it wasn't cracked in back in February when BG inspected it?
Perhaps it's not really cracked now?
Or perhaps it is...just how hard did that EON engineer hit it when inspecting it ???
(and more importantly just how much did he quote to fit a new boiler?)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Thanks to all who replied:cool: I was shown the crack by E-on guy but did not see anything to indicated it had been done for a while ie: Sooting or burning marks, so suspect it had happened recently. BG guy more or less said the same but remarked boiler too old to repair and arranged for a quote to replace it. Having been given the quote I am now taking another 2 before making my mind up, Thanks again to all.0

Get a couple of local gas safe registered engineers to quote, preferably ones recommended to you by friends, neighbours, etc.
Don't be surprised when the quotes comes back at about 50% of BG or Eon quotes."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
