working from home

Hello People,
I'm a third year medical student about to start my summer job, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any working from home sort of things that aren't actually just a rip off? Most things you see want money up front etc, and are prob something and nothing. I need to top up my cash a little as I've got a long way to go! Any ideas would be great.
Thankeeeeeeee

Have you considered contacting any of the market research companies specialising in healthcare/pharma research? An (ex) GP I know does this full time, from home on the telephone and says she's much happier than before and makes good money too.

You can search for companies on this database
    http://www.rbg.org.uk/searchguide.php

You have to register as a guest to login, but looking quickly I found 10's of companies.

or try googling Medical market research?

    Good luck

Hi. A lot of the 'work from home' adverts posted around the net, be it filling envelopes or sending e-mails are a bit of a risk as there is no actual physical or statistical proof that they do what they claim that they do. An example of this was one on the net that my mum got a few weeks ago. You pay £60 for the 'startup kit' and this tells you everything you need to know, including what exactly you need to do. After receiving this kit, you will magically start earning £1000 a month and radically change your life.

Now maybe it's true, in that you may well radically change you life by ending up in jail for doing something that is just not on. Who knows?

Basically what I'm trying to say is that it's probably not the best idea to just jump into a job offer on the net. Have a look in the papers, job centres or even contact the medical department at your local Uni. Are you a good typist? Maybe transcription might be up your street. One of my notetakers did this over the summer, and earns £20 per hour typing up discertations on behalf of a larger company.

Hope that helped at least a bit, cheers and take care.

    Hussein.

    hi
thanks for your replies. I am pretty good at the old typing malarky, but I don't have any official qualification. I am also a shark at proof reading, but I suspect you need a proper qual for that too?

Wow! Just whereabouts in the country are you? We tried to do Ckeeneze in our house near Aberdeen and it was just a flop right from the start. Plus the charges for books and bags etc were ridiculous and the reps were most unhelpful. LOL I guess it's just the luck of the draw. Now I stick to online money making, selling my old stuff, starting my own business (buying and selling online) and also now that the World Cup's here and even though I have no interest in football, taking advantage of some of the free bets out there - you can make quite a packet with little risk if you study the thing properly and take your time.

    Cheers and take care.

You could try dropshipping which does't involve any outlay. Check out https://www.dropshipforum.co.uk for details.

Oh god yes, dropshipping why didn't I think of that. The US is a good place to look for cheap goods. I recently bought 20 5-mile radios (40 handsets) from there over the net. Cost me just £11.49 a pair for the high quality Cobra branded ones.

I was going to sell them individually, but ever since I got my own phone line (supposed to help with my business and I thought it was a good idea as a student as well) the bills mean I'm very tight on cash all of a sudden so I'm now looking to sell the entire lot. At the moment I'm looking at an approx 30%-40% markup on the lot, which still means the buyer of the lot can sell them for profit, as these radios retail for £40+ here in the UK. Frankly at this time having £219 in cash locked in a box that isn't moving anywhere doesn't sit well with me at all.

Might be an idea you could try.

    Cheers and take care.

    Hi!

I'm a 3rd year medical student as well. You're lucky to actually have a summer holiday. >.< I only have 10 days off my the whole 3 years of my clinical phase. Anyway, I'm doing quite well on ebay selling skincare products and cosmetics, and the effort is minimal. :) The initial cost could be quite high (depending on how much risk you dare to take) but the net profit is close to 100%.

ah but that's cos I'm just starting third year, and doing preclinical first. What's your selling all about if you don't mind me asking? Or maybe it's a trade secret? :embarasse
