How long to fix a washing machine???

I purchased a Zanussi washer/dryer in July this year, 5 weeks ago it wouldn't switch on at all so as it was still under guarantee I phoned the number on the Zanussi guarantee, an Engineer called round the net day to have a look at it. He explained it would take 2 working days for the part needed to arrive, it's now 5 weeks later and still no part! I have called them almost every day to ask when the part will arrive and keep being told different things, the latest when I called them yesterday is that it will be at least a further 2 and a half weeks until they get it.
So my question is.....when is it reasonable to demand a new machine instead of having to wait for the part?? And are they likely to get me a new machine or keep fobbing me off with different stories every time? Would trading standards or anyone else b able to help with this matter do you think? I normally wouldn't be that bothered about the machine not working, but I have a 5 week old baby and I REALLY need my washing machine!!

Why not check to see how long you have to reject a new purchase as being unfit for purpose and demanding a replacement?
Personally, I would have done this long before now.0 -
thanks EliteHeat, but how would I find out how long I have to reject the purchase before getting a replacment?0

is a guide for traders but covers everything you need to know, read the bit about “claims for compensation” on p11, the “reasonable time/significant inconvenience” on p12 and the “consequential losses” on p16.
You should have gone back to the retailer rather than the manufacturer.
I’d phone & fire off a letter to the retailer, explaining the circumstances & time line, pointing out the significant inconvenience bit in the above and tell them you want it repairing immediately or a refund or a loan machine together with cover for any costs you’ve incurred by having to do your washing elsewhere.
They no doubt will rightly say this is the first they’ve heard about it but you should get it fixed sharpish0 -
Can i just make a recommendation for purchasers of washing machines? Just buy something simple with a couple of knobs and maybe the odd button. Dont be enticed by computerised bits. After all,it just fills with hot water, churns it around, heats it up and pumps it out...its isnt rocket science.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
