Hi, im just asking for a friend who is getting or should i say trying to get a car through motability for his younger sister.
He has a few sisters and two of them are entitled to the higher rate DLA. His step-mum already has one car on motability but is finding it difficult with only one car for hospital trips etc. now she split with her husband (my friends dad but him and her are still close) They went to a car place to speak to the motability guy and sorted out a car that was due to be delivered this weekend to the garage. The problem was that they did not have the entitlement form that really was needed to put the claim through but the motability man got the NI number and tried to put the claim in without it.
The letters did still not arrive so they were asked to be sent out again (or so she says they were) as the claim was put in for the car but was declined so without the documents he said he would have to wait so he can fax them through to prove it.
a couple of weeks went by and still nothing through the post so he got her to put them through again so she did and said the only reason they did not come and the claim was declined was because of a wrong address (or so she says she rang up and did that)
She said she sorted out the address, so he got in contact with the motability man and said thats why, they are sending some more through but if you want to try again its pretty certain that it should go through. He tried and it was declined due to the person 'was not on the higher rate DLA' when she diffinatly was. Anyway, from then which was begining of last week he is still waiting for these forms and was thinking they were late because of the postage strike. Still nothing as of today.
His step mum said she will contact the local place where they may be able to sort it and fax it through to them where she could go through and pick it up. She was told to ring back the place at 4.30pm (or so she says, it's a very strange time to call back near the end of the day ) but rang then and was told it would be best to call at dinner time today (or so she says, he's never actually been there when shes made the call)
He got in touch with her at dinner and asked for any news, she did not reply until around 1pm as she had just woke up the reply was
'i have rang the woman, they can do it but name's case has gone to renew due to report of neurologist, it takes around 10 days but she can fax it'
'letter only came yesterday from consultant (its strange it only happened yesterday out of the whole time) thats why she cannot fax it yet because it is put on suspend, i'm lucky its 10 days because if i had asked it to be looked at it takes 6 weeks'
'the claim was only suspended yesterday and they would not accept it with one of those entitlement forms because the claim is put on suspend'
these forms have yet to come through the post, the car has to be sat at the dealers until its 'unsuspended'
now, after all that do you think that it all sounds genuine on her part? She is very good at 'can't be bothered to do stuff' and putting things off with really good excuses.
What is your opinion ?

Sorry but i got lost in the 'he said/she said' parts.
Can you see if you can explain the problem?0 -
Are the DLA recipients children, and do the family already have one car on Motability? Is one of the DLA claims suspended? if so they need to contact the DWP disability unit to enquire as to what is going on. Without clear concise info from the OP it is hard to fathom out what is going on here.0

I got very confused. Will the second car be used for a disabled child as well as the first car being used for another disabled child?
Do the children live with mum, but brother wants a motability car? That's what it sounds like to me - maybe that's where the problem lies, as there will be records of the household already having one motability car. Presumably Motability will think that mum will be able to use the current car for any appointments and an additional car (to be used by another family member) might not be allowed (although I may well be wrong!). Would the brother use the car primarily for the child whose HRM is paying for it though?
Perhaps clearer detail will help posters to give the correct advice. If you can set it out along the lines of 'child A has a mobility car, child B also receives HRM but does not have a car; mum is person C and brother is person D' - it would help to differentiate between the different characters in the OP.0 -
I think the car dealer should not have ordered the car until all the paperwork was in place.
If the claimant has higher rate mobility DLA, then the notification of that award should be shown to the car dealer, who will apply to motability for finance.
If DLA has been suspended, motability would reject the application. I suspect they would also reject (or at least request more info about) a second claim for a vehicle in a household that already has one. The dealer will/should normally only order a vehicle when motability have agreed the finance.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0
