Data Entry Work - Is this a scam?

Was looking for work and came across this: http://www.genuinedataentryjobs.com/#

Can anyone help and let me know if this is just another scam?

Thanks

  • At a guess more than likely. They ask for a 20.00 one off registration fee.
  • never trust a "company" that doesnt have a phone number

Those data entry companies will tell you this:
    - Companies are looking for people to do data entry
    - To find these companies, become an affiliate (free), usually clickbank
    - Your "data entry" work is then signing up for Google Adwords and paying to place adverts for these companies (that you are paying for), in the hope that an advert you place will lead to a sale, on which you are paid a commission

Yes, it is possible to make money doing this - it's not something you need to pay for to find out about though.

No, it is not possible for you to make money straight away. Identifying/picking the right product to sell/promote takes skill/effort/research . Writing adverts that get people to click takes copywriting skills and time/research.

Overall, it's not something more than 1:1,000 people would ever even break even doing, to be honest.

You might "have the knack", maybe it is within your skillset to be able to find the products people want and write adverts that convert etc etc ... if so you can find out all you need to know for yourself without paying them.

You can learn how to use Google Adwords for free, without paying a thing:
    http://www.docstoc.com/docs/14898631/Adwords-Made-Easy-Matt-Callen

Then simply join something like clickbank (free) and choose a product to promote.

    That's all it is.

    So, to recap:
    - find a product to promote
    - pay for adverts that you write to appear on Google
    - if people click on your advert and buy something, you get paid by the person whose product you're promoting

Risk Level: High risk of failure
Skills Needed: Patience, data analysis, practice, attention to detail, copywriting

    I hope that helps.

(P.S. You don't have to do this through Adwords, it's just affiliate marketing really and you could advertise the products in free classified sites to see if you're any good at it before you invest your cash in actual Adwords adverts).
  • There really should be a sticky thread here that says "Companies asking for money up front, usually as a "registration fee" should not be trusted as it is highly likely it is a scam".

Whenever I see threads here now asking "is this a scam" you just know, even by that thread title, that it's the same thing - data entry, envelope stuffing e.t.c..

I think a sticky would really help people and people could also add to it with websites that are offering these scams so people could check against it ..

Yes it looks like a scam. But I just wanted to say that I did kosher data entry work for about a year and a half when my kids were small. I was provided with a computer and I had to type in details from competitions coupons, etc. from papers and magazines. The more you did, the more you got paid for and the computer kept tally.

At the end of every month you 'billed' the company who then paid you a cheque. This worked well and they had many people working for them. You had to declare yourself self employed and complete tax returns (obviously). I would keep checking the local papers for this type of work - you really can make a good living from it.
