ASDA Online & Co Op Cashminder

Sorry if this has been posted already but seeing as I have just experienced this thought I would "remind" everyone

We have always done our shopping online at ASDA and up until now we have never had a problem. However, ASDA recently took out £185.00 for the shopping, when we checked available balance there was less money available than expected.

Now, and this is a first for me, I had kept all receipts so promptly went through them and there was still a £187 missing. A quick call to the Co Op told us that they have lots of problems with ASDA online and they just cancelled the transaction. Although this would have resolved itself in around 10 days!!!

After some digging it turns out that it is do with ANY debit card that starts 4508, apparently they don't get recognised as a debit card and get treated as a credit card.

Not sure what can be done at the moment apart from not using ASDA online (and possibly Tesco).

    Thanks for the heads up.

They so need to get things like this sorted.

What's happened? Asda took £187 that they shouldn't have. I'm not understanding very well as usual.

If I am understanding correctly, they took the money very late after the transaction took place?....I think.

    You've made me unsure now!

I've heard that Asda take the amount that your shopping online is worth in a transation then refund any difference sometime later.. I think, but I can't work out what has happened to the £187?

It happened to me several times and subsequently I no longer shop at Asda.

When you place your order they put a hold on that amount of money in your bank account, then when they put the order up it is put through again and the hold is meant to be released. In practice this doesn't happen and can mean where you thing you have money in your account things will get bounced because of this.

Thanks Tigerfeet that's what i meant.

Put simply ASDA took £187 one day but when checking my balance there was £187 deficit as if it had been taken twice. checking with Co Op confirmed this and as tigerfeet said it is all to do with ASDA putting a "hold" against £187 and not releasing it when the actual transaction takes place

And yes works perfect in store just an online problem

I'm suprised this is happening now though....my OH has a "4508" co-op card & she's had no probs for a little while always seems to be treated and goes through as a "visa" card now...even tesco delivered something last week for her

Oooh ! Tesco's, really. Will have to give it a try.

Must admit my Asda problems were at the beginning of the year.
