What on earth would he want with an unneeded music player. :p

    Ah, touche!

FIL won't be to fussed about HD. For us, I went with the Toshiba Camileo S10 which Tesco are now doing for £99 (we paid more months ago). We're pretty pleased with it and pleasantly surprised at the still picture performance.

That's a nice little camera.

The OP doesn't "have HD tv or bluray or anything like that".

Here's a video shot with the Creative Vado:
    ......
and here's one shot with the Flip Ultra HD (don't forget to click the "HD" button):
    ......
You can see the Flip Ultra HD pretty much blows away the Creative Vado as far as video quality is concerned.

Well, that's a bit unfair comparison. Obviously Flip Ultra HD does blow away Creative Vado but not the current version Vado HD or Mac-compatible Vado HD 2nd gen. This adds to the fact that Vado HD sells for about 100 bucks on Amazon so is definitely a better value compared to the Flip. Besides many people, including myself consider it also to be better quality I like it for its wider lenses compared to the Flip, it lets more light in. Especially important when shooting indoors.

I compared it to the standard Vado because that was the one under discussion.

The Flip Ultra HD has a more sensitive sensor than the Vado HD has. I did consider the Vado HD, but after looking at a lot of videos on YouTube, I decided the Flip Ultra HD had a better picture.

I bought the creative vado pocket cam from argos and it is excellent, works well in dark conditions and the sound is pretty good too.

unfortuantely now my mother wants one too and they are no longer on sale in argos.. has anyone else seen them for under £40 anywhere?

The Kodak Zi8 is getting very good reviews at the momnet. Persoanlly I don't think there's a lot to choose between the various models as long as you compare like with like, i.e. HD versions of all of them.

If you want something a touch more sophisticated, more like a traditional camcorder, how about this? I'm planning on getting one of these for Christmas.

    Panasonic SD10
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
