And we know that the dodgier advisers hate any products like tracker funds that earn them less commission.
Here you go again. You cannot enter into a debate without going anti adviser. Also, a lot of trackers pay exactly the same as managed for those advisers working on commission.Trackers with low management fees consistently outperform the average managed fund in their sector.
Yes. All share trackers tend to be just above mid table. In other words just above average. However, a tracker is not guaranteed to be average depending on what it tracks.
FTSE100 trackers spent much of the last 15 years in bottom half of the performance tables. FTSE250 trackers had a much better run and spent much of it at the top. Being a tracker had nothing to with either of those things. It was where they invested that was key.investors should be aware why some commission-greedy advisers might say otherwise.
Investors should be aware of the pro-tracker brigade that make claims like that when it has nothing to do with it. Your veiled accusations dont wash. I am fee based so paid the same whether its tracker or managed and I dont get paid anything for posting here. I dont have any of my own money in trackers at this time but I do have have clients with trackers in their portfolio as for some its right and others its not. As posts on this board (and indeed this thread) have shown, people often dont want average. They look for more than that.
The problem is that the pro-tracker brigade and the pro managed brigade tend not to be balanced in their argument. In reality there are times when trackers are good and times when they are not. If you limit yourself to using only the one type then you are compromising your investment portfolio.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
