£80 police fine for wasting their time! does this mean criminal record?

My partner was issued with an £80 on the spot fine for wasting police time (long story - believe me!)

Does this mean he has a Criminal Record? Will it show on a CRB check?

Didnt know that they issued a fine for it now but yes it used to be an offence as still is AFAIK and would show up on a CRB. I would check exactly what he was fined for

In England and Wales, one can be charged by police with the offence under Section 5(2) of the Criminal Law Act 1967[1] when one "causes any wasteful employment of the police" by "knowingly making to any person a false report" which:
    • Shows that a criminal offence has been committed,
    • Creates apprehension for the safety of any persons or property, or
    • Indicates that they have information material to any police inquiry.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment and/or a fine.

It may be entered onto the Police National Computer for future reference, however you would have to check with the charging officer as to whether they have decided to enter it onto PNC

    This is a different offence.

OP, your partner has been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice. This is not an admission of guilt per se, and it is not a criminal conviction. It is not entered on the PNC and therefore will not show up on a CRB check.

FPN's are used as an alternative to the above charge, which would only be used in much more serious circumstances.

    Thanks everyone for your help

I do DMG24 is correct. My partner was not right mentally at the time and so I hope this wont affect his chances of getting a new job/volunteering etc.

I'm sure the information is correct, I was discussing FPN's with a policy maker recently (the things you talk about at funerals!). If you still have any doubts, you could try calling NACRO, will should be able to set your mind at ease.
