Nationwide Autocentre complaint
Options
My 06 Corsa failed its MOT at a Council MOT centre due to the front cv joint gaiters being insecurely mounted. My local Nationwide Autocentre charged me £40 for the privilage of getting two new clips fitted but when I drove 2 miles to Council MOT centre they had already come loose meaning I failed the re-test. I took it back to complain and they said that they would attempt to re-fit the clips but the best solution would be to replace the plastic gaiter boot with a rubber one which was easier to secure (cost an extra £100 for a total of £140). anyway as expected when I went to pick up the car they told me that theycouldn't secure the plastic gaiter boot properly and so had to replace it. When I took the car for the subsequent re-test MOT, the Council MOT tester said that although tricky it was entirely possible to secure a plastic gaiter joint providing they cleaned the grease properly before applying the clips and used a proper crimping tool. When I queried the Nationwide manager about this it turns out that they didn't have the necessary crimping equipment to do the job properly.
I think that it is out of order that they did not tell me this in the first place as I would have taken my car somewhere that did have the capacity to do it properly and not have paid them £140 for unnecessary work. I have posted this highlight what I think is unethical practice and to ask whether you think I should just chalk this up to experience or I have a valid complaint that I should take further?

2 x cable ties and a pair pliers is enough to secure these
£1 worth of parts and 10 mins to fit them0 -

OP - you asked for a repair and the garage failed to carry out that repair correctly.
You gave them a second chance (and you paid again ). It still failed.
They have now said they are not competent/skilled enough to carry out the repair they said they would (and charged you for)
Of course you should take it further. Take the vehicle elsewhere, this time to a competent mechanic, get the repair carried out correctly and send the first garage the bill."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Yep, definitely take this further; with the manager admitting their incompetence you're half way there.
A quick search through this forum would have helped you avoid these clowns.0
