As the title states, I have found a couple of lenders who perform an un-recorded credit enquiry or soft search on your credit file, I think compiling a list of which lenders do this and which credit bureau they use will be useful.

So, if anybody has any information on this, please let us know as this will help others while shopping around, I know it is still not a definitive answer as to whether you will be accepted but the resultant APR from the quotation should give you an indication as to the level of risk they view you at.

At this time there is no company who will do this for revolving credit i.e. Credit cards, store cards et al, so just loans for now.

What is an unrecorded enquiry?

An unrecorded enquiry is a search that was not made for lending purposes. It is not seen by lenders but is included on your credit report so you are aware the search was made.

Lender /CRA

Nationwide - Experian.
Zopa - Equifax
Egg - Experian.

  • I have a quote from Nationwide, they have shown monthly installments ect, have they already done an unrecorded enquiry? Or is this just an indication for anyone in my circumstances?

Sorry that is for loans mate - thought you wanted to know who does a soft search for loan applications?

HSBC done a soft search (account review marker) and when I never proceeded it disappeared totally so not quite sure what they done with me.

Regards to current accounts they search Experian and Call Credit (report to all 3) and for internal increases to overdraft etc they search any of the CRA's - for instance my CC was Experian but one o/d was Experian & Equifax whilst the other was only CallCredit.

Hope that helps (confusing or what! - Maybe this is their plan, to chop-and-change to stop us second guessing them?) :D

We already have an active thread for cards and bank accounts - Credit Reference Agencies - Who Really Uses Who?! UPDATE

The link you sent from Barclays is actually inaccurate cos they soft search Call Credit when you use that link - but if you proceed to apply they have an agreement with Equifax and do a full search with them.

Proliant wants to know about loans - lets try and not confuse this thread with that of Underground eh?.....
