How is it 'more difficult' to sell a shared ownership property?

Because many buyers simply aren't interested, or need to consider, a shared ownership property, therefore there's less demand for them when they are resold.
Because some shared ownership schemes, I believe, forbid the owner/tenant from renting out the property so if they want to move into their partners property, for example, they do not have the option of letting it out.0 -
I suppose this all depends then on the OPs situation, did you buy this as an SO property, or did you buy an open market property where an SO scheme helped you?0

If you only own 50% like me you can only sell your property to someone on the SO scheme. If you purchase the remainding 50% you can sell to anyone as the property is yours. It's in your T&C's0

As has been pointed out, there are many different kinds of SO scheme.
It would be necessary for the OP to say which type theirs was for any help/advice/opinion to be given.0 -
In addition to what has been said above, there's also the consideration that shared ownership homes can be part of wider 'affordable housing' schemes. Our SO flat is part of a block that adjoins rented accommodation for supposed key workers and as a result some of the shared areas get really messy, and the interconnecting door which is supposed to be one-way only is repeatedly broken by the "other side". I'm not dissing keyworkers or tenants here, but our particular bunch of them are a pain, and would put off some buyers.0

SO will appeal to the people SO appeals to otherwise there would be far fewer schemes.
A property may be harder to sell to the wider market but horses for courses.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.0
