Just been made redundant

Having worked for my previous employers for the last 11 years I was made redeundant on 31/10, I was given my notice of redundancy in August stating that any wages and redundancy payment would be paid on my last day of employment, anyway neither of them have happened although I'm told I can go and collect my wages and P45 today but they cant tell me when I will be paid my redundancy, we were all (6) made redundant as the landlords are redeveloping the site so the company still exists although miles away from my last location so no other employment was offered.
I pressume I need to start a grievance procedure to get things moving but I'm not sure how I go about this or even how to word this without it sounding threatning because I'd rather get this resolved quickly and without having to wait for court proceedings, so any help or advice would be much appreciated, tia Chris

  • If they can pay you your wages, why can't they pay you your redundancy pay? I'd keep the pressure on them to pay up with e-mails/telephone calls. If you don't get your money in a month, think about seeing the citizens advice bureau or a solicitor.
I am an employment solicitor. However, my views should not be taken to be legal advice. It's difficult to give correct opinion based on the information given by posters.

I did get my wages yesterday and my P45 but still no sign of redundancy my emails go unanswered and whenever I ring it's always somebody elses job or the person I need to speak to isn't available at the moment and they'll ring me back which just doesnt happen, also I'm getting it in the neck from the other staff as I was the branch manager.
  • For now I would chase again stating that you were advised that the redundancy pay would be made on xx and you have not received it. Advise them that you are also being chased by the rest of the team and that this is unacceptable as you are no longer an employee. Ask when they will honour the redundancy payments and ask for a response within say 5 working days.
Get your emails to come back with a read receipt. If not read, then you could write and send the letter recorded delivery to ensure that you have a track of when you sent the letter.
If you do not have a response within the timescale, write again expressing your disappointment and advising that if you do not receive payment within xx you will have no other option than to file a claim with the employment tribunal.
