Apologise as I'm sure that this has been asked numerous times, can you download pod casts to normal MP3 players or is it just Ipods ?

if you can, how do you do it?

Podcasts are almost all MP3s and can be downloaded without any software and you definitely don't need an Ipod. (Podcasting wasn't invented by Apple and not really to do with Ipods, the name has just stuck)

People get put off by the word 'podcast'. All they are are standard mp3 files. The only thing that makes them special is that there's a special page created that keeps a record of when they're released, which makes it possible for some media players to automatically download them for you.

Probably the best software to get you started with podcasting is Itunes because it has a huge built-in catalogue of podcasts and also just about every podcast you find will have a quick-add link to add the show to Itunes.

Tartanpodcast is a good example of a podcast.

If you go to that page you'll see that you can:

click the little play icon to listen to the show directly from the page

Right-click Listen to the latest show here and save the mp3 directly to your computer

If you had Itunes, you could have clicked 'subscribe'. Itunes would regularly check for new episodes and would automatically download them for you.
