faulty pre-owned game....but no receipt :(

I brought a pre-owned game from gamestation a couple of weeks ago, and i played it to a certain point, and it keeps freezing, a-la faulty. It has lots of scratches on it, and im really surprised they've sold it in this condition to be honest.
Obviously this wouldn't normally be a problem, but i seemed to have misplaced the receipt. i know that there's only 4 different dates on which i could have brought it, so could i ask them to check their records to see if the game was brought on any of those days? and its got a gamestation pre-owned sticker on it still with the price.
would this actually get me anywhere, or do i have to resign myself to the fact that i may be stuck with the game?
Any help would be mucho appreciated

It may help if you have anything else you can use as proof of purchase.0

unfortunatly i think i paid for it in cash (unusually because it was my birthday and i had some, normally i would pay by card)0

Then it's rather unlikely. They could find a cash sale for the game, but there's no way of proving that is yours.
Sadly, people often try a scam where they steal a game, then get staff to look through the system to find a sale for it and claim it's theirs. So Gamestation are unlikely to do this for you.
I know it's no use to you now, but when I buy a game, I always put the receipt in the box, underneath the manual.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Hi,
I would go into the Gamestation branch you bought it from and at least try. Be honest with them: tell them you have misplaced the receipt, but that the game genuinely freezes, and is genuinely faulty through no fault of your own. Point out still the 'preowned' sticker on the front of the box.
I doubt this will get any money back, however if you tell them that you would be more than happy to exchange it for another pre-owned game of the same or lesser value ...you may get somewhere (especially if you give your eyelashes a flutter

Hi,
It only proves that Gamestation charged you for something that day. It does not prove that they charged you for that particular product, but it is still worth a try! Go in with your internet banking printout and ask for your money back....what harm can it do?!Profit=sanity

Hope I'm not too late for this, buuuut:
I had a similar situation with gamestation. I usually check the preowned disks before accepting them, but bought quite a few this time and Gears of War happened to be in a dire condition when I got it home.
When I took it back the next day, they gave it a spin on their disk repairer and it's fine.
They'll probably do that if you ask, because you can point out that you couldn't have caused that much disk damage in a couple of days ownership and they're meant to do the disks before selling them anyway (so said the guy who did it).0 -
I had a similar problem a few months ago and my local Gamestation put the disc through their repair station - now works fine. I'd probably go down this route, unless the disc is not repairable.0

I knocked my husbands Xbox off the counter while he was plaing a game bought 12 hours earlier..... It was scratched really badly and wouldn't even load. Gamestation put it on their repair machine and it worked fine:j30/7/10:j

Each transaction will have a reference number, a reference number linked to a transaction and a transaction listed to an item.
Showing them the card used, time of spending and price should easily be able to find the item.0
