However I would now prefer to have close relatives rather than the solicitor's firm nominated as the Executor.
Can I re-type my Will word-for-word, changing only the Executor details and witnesses/dates and re-sign?
Having done that, if I were to store my new, DIY Will with the Probate Service and write to the solicitors to revoke my previous Will would there be anything else I needed to do?
You can do this but get at least one other person to proof-read it for you.
Make sure you get the signing and witnessing right.
I would ask for the original of the previous will and destroy it yourself.
On the other hand - A will is such an important document and, if there is a problem with it, you won't be around to put it right so think about asking the solicitor to do it. The details will be on their computer and it will only take minutes to change the details. I made a change to my will last year for the princely sum of £20 - one beneficiary was removed and percentage shares for others were changed.0 -

Yes.

I am now 78 and have never had a will but as a relative has just died without a will and this caused a lot of problems even though he had not a lot to leave so I think maybe it is time I did one myself. i do not have any money, no house as it is rented and just a load of junk really so I just look at the whole will writing thing as having been set up as a load of work for solicitors to make money. I do not know anything about Probate etc and what needs to be done. I am a carer of my son who has learning difficulties and am listed as his PoA and need to sort this out so it will be smooth for him and my daughter will take over his financial and benefit affairs and I feel this needs to be done now but how do I go about this?0

Hello,
I want to make a simple Will using the on-line legal document service, GlossLegal.
They claim that:
"All Wills are checked by a Solicitor."
and
"As long as instructions are entered carefully and signing procedures followed closely, your Will will be valid, and it is in the correct format to be acceptable to UK Probate Courts."
but at the same time, there are a lot of disclaimers, such as on the terms and conditions page under No Warranty:
"GlossLegal makes no warranty that... (c) the results that may be obtained from the use of the site, or any materials offered through the Site, will be accurate or reliable;..."
and selected quotes from the Will Writing Disclaimer page:
"GlossLegal is not permitted to practise law. GlossLegal is prohibited from providing any kind of advice, explanation, opinion, or recommendation to a consumer about possible legal rights and associated remedies, defences, and options."
"This site is not intended to create a solicitor-client relationship, and by using glossLegal, no solicitor-client relationship is created."
"GlossLegal's document service provides you with a summary and detailed review of your answers for completeness, spelling and grammar, as well as internal consistency of names, addresses and the like. It is your responsibility to review and correct any mistakes. At no time do we review your answers for legal sufficiency, draw legal conclusions, provide legal advice or apply the law to the facts of your particular situation."
And somewhere on the site it says that if you ask for any advice, they definitely won't give any. I just can't find that bit now.
So I am wondering if I make a Will using their website, will it be all right? Ie. legal and fit for purpose? What is the point of the Will being checked if they won't give any advice if they find something wrong?
And I wonder if they are protected by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, as I have read that this would give me protection if anything is wrong with the Will; I can't find any mention of this on their site, or mention of any kind of insurance. I will write and ask them, but if they are not a member of the SRA, would I have any protection at all if things went wrong? Apparently this is one of the main reasons to use a solicitor instead of a Will writer.
Any advice and feedback appreciated. Hopefully I am just not properly understanding the disclaimers and everything would be all right if I used this company, but I want to be as sure as I can.
