i bought a canon digicam back in june from the above named shysters through amazon markets.Sadly the camera packed in shortly thereafter (about 6 weeks thereafter to be precise) and I sent an email to them askinf for a replacement. They sent me a very nice email back from Nancy saying that I should check the troubleshooting section on teh canon website before contacting them if no further forward.I did check, the camera still did not work so I emailed them back......no reply,I emailed them again.... no reply etc etc. After a month or so of waiting for a reply, I tried to go through Amazon who were basically not in the slightest bit interested,( thanks very much from a now former customer )
Having contacted Trading Standards they have given me a course of action to take and I now need to find a trading address for them so if anybody knows where these people reside I would be delighted to know
For those of you who dont know, probably best to avoid these erm dare I say it rip off merchants

yes ... I understand that ... but at the moment you don't have a working camera & no address details for Photoland - so thought it might be easier to contact Canon & see what they say - it cann't do any harm?hi Mark

Hi Mark
I have contacted Canon who suggested I should send it to one of their repair centres as it is still under warranty so that is fair enough and thank you Canon .However as I needed a vid camera I bought one elsewhere and want to return the defective one.
The point of the exercise is to not let a shoddy bunch like photoland off the hook as it is after all their responsibility. As I mentioned I now have the nice folk at Dorset Trading Standards involved who are interested in how photoland are behaving as this is not the first time they have come accross them so I guess people should be aware of buying from them.garth;)0 -
Forgive me if I am missing something but does this not add up?
You bought the cam in June (let's say the first week of June) then it dies about 6 weeks later (say end of July) then had communication from Photoland_uk but then allowed them a month and two emails to reply but they didn't? If you sent emails via Amazon then surely Amazon should be able to see that you made efforts to contact them and surely they should allow a claim under their A-to-Z Guarantee.
You should submit such a claim within 90 days from date of order and though we are well past that now when you first contacted Amazon it would probably not have been far outside the 90 days if at all. Amazon do require that you make contact with a seller before submitting a claim and, if you sent the emails via Amazon, then they will be able to see that and you could argue that you were only put out of the 90 days by the attempts to contact the seller as Amazon require...?
Photoland_uk have apparently stopped selling on Amazon at the moment (there's no sign of when this happend and obviously not sure if anything should be read into that or not?) but their feedback (94% positive out of a lifetime total of 22,560 feedbacks and 3,701 in the last 365 days) suggests that they are not normally a fly-by-night group. Maybe they have gone down the pan but that doesn't necessarily make them shysters - crap happens even to decent companies.
Perhaps Amazon know something you don't and therefore don't want an A-to-Z Guarantee claim because they can't debit Photoland_uk - they would have to bear the cost themselves if Photoland_uk have gone under?
Alternatively did you pay by credit card? Can you claim that way?
I would perhaps try Amazon again (lay it on heavy) but otherwise your cc before and let us know?

As it happens I am going down the credit card route
Mea Culpa
I was out on my dates the Camera died after 10 weeks not six which is still within the 90 days even by my dodgy maths
To recap camera was purchased on june 1st camera died on or around August 14th I emailed photoland on the 18th and recieved a reply on the 20th as follows
Dear Ian,
Firstly, please allow me to extend my apologies for any inconvenience this matter has caused you unnecessarily.
I am sorry to hear about the problem you experienced with your order.
Our manufacturers do stand behind their products. I would suggest contacting them for some troubleshoot. in most incidents they can fix the problem, rest assured if it is faulty we will replace it for you.

Hello from Amazon.co.uk.

> Thank you for writing to us regarding order 2********************* Please
> understand as previously stated we determined that you are not eligible
> for an A-to-z Guarantee claim as you did receive the item you ordered and
> you did not contact the seller to make return arrangements for the
> merchandise within 14 days of receipt.> Thank you for choosing Amazon.co.uk.

As you may realise that is not the first but one of several attempts to get them to understand that Amazon Marketplace seems to harbour (my words) the shysters photoland , I can only go on my dealings with them which have been so far evasive and dishonest
So chasing the CC seems to be my only option now which is in motion. If that fails, small claims court etc etc if they havent already gone bust which wouldnt surprise me quite frankly
If they have and Amazon know about it and are fudging the issue to save themselves two hundred quid then that makes Amazon shysters as well.
Will keep you informed how this plays outgarth;)0
