Nuisance Phone Calls from Total Refund

I keep getting nuisance phone calls from someone called Sarah Simpson of Total Refund. The message is a recording and at times we have been getting up to 6 phone calls a day for the past 2 weeks.

At the end of the call it gives you 2 options – press one button to connect or another button to opt out. I haven't asked for these calls and I have had no dealings with the company, so I'm presuming it may be some sort of phishing call. And seeing other threads regarding this company seem to show that it may be dodgy.

My concern is that, if I press the button to opt out, will that work the same as a phishing e-mail and register your number somewhere for further cold calling? Has anyone had any experience of this?

not only can they be what you suspect them to be it could cost you a premium line call cost.

You cant change the cost of a call in mid flight. If its an incoming call it remains an incoming call even if you press a button.

You could try mailing them at info<A>totalrefund.co.uk and ask them to remove your number from their list.

Failing that if your registered with TPS report them. They are based in the UK in Birmingham.

  • We have been getting these calls non-stop since we moved into our new house and took on the previous occupant's number.

I have been registered with the TPS (2 weeks ago) but I have little faith that this will help the matter.

I just slam the phone down the minute I hear Sarah Simpson's name!

I think I will give them a call.

Same problem. Multiple calls per day. Found their website via Google [to my surprise] and phoned 3 times, every time on hold until a real person promised to remove my number. Had to phone again and was on hold for a very long time [heavily charged I think so watch out] so I switched to my mobile and hid my number ... different answer message and got through in a minute! Do you think they ban a number when it calls to stop them? Anyway I spoke to yet another person who promised to stop it. Got another call same day!

Already listed with TPS so looked around and found Opt-Out UK ltd. They do a free service but though I wasn't too sure about it, in desperation, I opted for the next option up. Haven't had a call since from Total Refund for about 2 weeks now. Perhaps they got the message or perhaps Opt-Out worked. I also filled out a form on another site [can't post it as a direct link cos I'm a newbie] informationcommissioner [dot] gov [dot] uk complaining about TR. As they are UK based they shouldn't be sending out automated calls apparently.
  • I thought they had finally been stopped (having recently registered with TPS) but I have just this minute had good old Sarah Simpson on the telephone. This has been the first in about 7 days.

Zaphodeist: I looked up Total Refund on saynoto0870.com and I got this geographic number: 0121 708 4055

I use 1899.com for phone calls so I will be calling T.R. at not too much expense to myself.
