Thank you David, Id been looking under 'independent surveyors' in the PCA rather than Consultants . Ive looked under that heading and I see them.
Still interested in the 'get a builder in first ' argument if anyone feels like commenting from perhaps a builders point of view.
  • Following David's advice, I spoke to Ray from Academy Remedial Surveyors, he sent through a quote for £250 to go in and assess the flat. They also operate this website, so £250 is the price for anything up to a 3-bed property.

Following the advice I've received on here, and also from friends and family I think I've decided to pull out of my purchase. The thought of trying to sell it in future has swayed me. Here's me thinking buying a house was going to be fun

Thanks all for the advice, I think you've probably saved me investing in a money-pit

Good luck High Roller. Think I may well be looking at the same people myself. I think youve done the right thing pulling out. Take it from me, damp and subsidence are real headaches , especially if its a flat where you dont get cooperation from other flatowners - and if your circumstances change and you need to move suddenly, youll either not be able to , or take a substantial financial hit.
