theatre tickets

for months, i've been wanting to see the goat, or who's sylvia at the apollo theatre in london. it's finally closing this week, so i decided to stop procrastinating and see it tonight. i called the apollo box office yesterday to ask about student standby tickets. i was told that they are available at £17.50 for the best available seat. great. i asked what time i needed to come in to get them. the guy on the phone said that anytime after the box office opens at 10. fine.
i dragged myself out of bed this morning, thinking that the earlier i get there, the better my chances are of getting a reasonably decent seat. after 40 minutes of dripping in sweat on the tube, i came up to the box office and asked to purchase a student ticket. the guy told me that i had to come back an hour before i show. i protested saying that i've been told that i could purchase the ticket in the morning. i had specifically come into central london just to buy the damn ticket. he told me that the decision as to what time the student tickets go on sale is made on the day of the show, depending on how well it's selling. now that all makes sense, except that i was specifically told to come in at 10 o'clock!
i had no choice but to drag my sweaty self home. i will be back tonight, an hour before the show. if it turns out to be sold out by then, i'm going to find someone to complain to. in the meantime, i'm going back to bed.
