Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker

I bought a Sony laptop on the 1st Novemeber 2008 from Argos. On the 26th October 2009 it stopped working.

I called up Sony and they arrange to pick it up for repair, saying that my warrenty was untill Feb 2010.

I had no word from them in all the time that they had my laptop, so i called them today and they have told me that the fault is liquid damage and that i have spilt liquid over the laptop causing the motherboard and graphics card to break.

I'm really confused as, i sent the laptop in because the screen stopped working, althought the laptop was powering up and everything else seems to be working apart from the screen, it was even conecting to the internet.
I am really careful with my things and i have never had any liquid near my laptop let alone spilt anything on it. So i am doubting if they are right.
They sent me photos of a laptop that when they opened up, it clearly looks like something has been spilt in the laptop, like milk. Which has nothing to do with me.. the laptop could be anyones laptop.

Sony have said they will repair at a cost of £700. The laptop cost me £480 from Argos last year!!

I called Argos and they told me that because the laptop is 2 days out of there 'warrenty' date that they wouldnt take it for repair/replacement. But if i would like to get an independant computer expert to look at the laptop to confirm that it is a manufacturing fault then i can send the report to them and they will look into it.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I'd do exactly what you just said in the last paragraph.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • Have a look at the webside nvidiadefect.co.uk - and speak to Paul at Lapcure. I think you may have the same problem as lots of other users.

Anyway Lapcure will give you an independent engineers report.
