Excellent Work from the BBC (notable sarcasm intended)

Remember that episode of Dom Littlewood's programme? The one where he claimed private companies could legally fine you for overstaying in a free car park?
Thankfully the BBC found some time in between using our money to venture further into the online marketplace and altering nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty so the egg survives (for the childrens' sake, naturally) to send this complaint response:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Dom's on the Case' as broadcast on 29 June.
Please accept our apologies for the delay in replying. We know our correspondents appreciate a quick response and we are sorry you have had to wait on this occasion.
I understand you were unhappy about a segment in this programme devoted to the remit of private parking companies and their subsequent right to clamp and issue fines. I appreciate you felt such information was inaccurate and recognise you would like this addressed.
I can assure you that your concerns have been forwarded to the programme's production team, they explained that this area of legislation comes under civil law not criminal law, the item was about private parking not public land.
The companies in question can fine and clamp as long as there are signs up telling drivers about the terms and conditions of parking on their site.
This can be corroborated by the following website:

The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites.
I hope this allays your concerns; I can assure you that I've registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

Did you really expect anything better???
It's humanities graduates we're talking about here, fawgawdsakes!!!0 -
That is an appalling response.
Factually incorrect, no appreciation of simple fundamentals of law (so it was not 'checked'.
Reference to an external website that has no authority. and to also disclaim the all external websites in the response is a clear abrogation and some would say double dealing.
Complain to the Board of Governors, every single one of them. Send the mail to their homes.
Worse than appalling.0 -
I don't know which is worse, the original Littlewood report or the response to your complaint which just adds insult to injury!
The "bloke told us in the pub" standard of research seems endemic in the BBC's consumer output nowadays; a few weeks ago Watchdog told its viewers categorically that there was nothing they could do except "pay for a repair or throw it in the bin" if a Sony Playstation broke after its 1 year warranty had expired....... without any mention of rights against the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act.
This is absolutely disgraceful and needs elevating to the £647,000-a-year Director General Mark Thompson.0 -
A TV comapny were asking for people who need Dom's "help" on the Vent thread to email them to feature on a Dom program recently, the mods deleted it0

Has the person that sent the email actually read the link?0

This is absolutely disgraceful and needs elevating to the £647,000-a-year Director General Mark Thompson.
But the Prime Minister earns "only" £197,689 (figure accurate as of April 2009).
Just wondering why the BBC head requires over three times the salary of someone in charge of and with ultimate responsibility for this country...0 -

It's clear that the twit from the BBC who sent the link had not even scan read it. If s/he had then they'd have got a much better impression of the reality of the situation. The article is actually quite good.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. I did, got the same result and was just as impressed.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
