Anyone know of any good laptop deals on at the moment?

Was looking at the Dell Inspiron 1300 for £399.

Its not a bad deal especially if you want the 80Gb HD. I think there are comparable Acer deals which people have posted recently.
It was better a couple of months ago when you could get this spec including 15inch screen but 40GB HD for £339.

Things to watch out for on it.
    -Its relatively heavy 3Kg
-You can upgrade the battery to 6 cell to double run time for £11.75
-It doesn't have a standard PCMCIA interface slot, it uses a new PCI EXPRESS standard and there are not many cards available yet.
-Screen brightness is not very good for use outside.
-You don't get system discs as standard so if you want them make sure you select as an option.
-There are only two RAM slots and this spec uses both so if you think you may need more in the future it might be worth upgrading to 512 on one card.
-Dell load all sorts of software on it so you might want to remove a lot of the preloaded ISP options etc.
-Some people have reported problems on this board with the DVD writer software. I haven't had any problems with it.

    Here is a fuller review

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the info.

The 80GB deal has ended so i'll wait and see what deals they come out with next before deciding on a move I think!

    Although this http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_3004WLMi_LX.A5505.A62/version-1.asp looks ok?

Dell will send you the discs for free if you ask for them after you get your laptop so don't pay for them upfront! An email is all it takes. Also worth remembering not to select any extra warranty upfront. You'll get a much better price calling them later if you want it. If you don't call them they'll probably call you with a deal anyway !

My first 1300 had a faulty motherboard but I got a replacement laptop from them and so far I'm pretty inpressed for the price but then I got the £300 deal acouple of months back.
