Pay For Drugs?

If 10% provides more people a better quality of life, I'm game. However, the system is in dire need of an overhaul0

Part of the difficulty in delivering an NHS that serves everyone's needs is that it's been in a permanent state of overaul for years, with no sign of easing up and consolidating. Primary Care Groups were formed a few years ago, which then merged into Primary Care Trusts, they in turn have now been merged into larger Primary Care Trusts which will function in the same way as the now defunct Health Authorities.0

I'd have no problem paying 10% more income tax if I was sure that the money I was paying was to be spent correctly - who decides what correctly is?? - but certainly in a better way than it appears to be currently spent.
What price your health? If you are faced with a stark choice - as we've been made to face just now in choosing between the two options - between receiving a potentially life saving drug, or dying I don't think there is anyone on this forum who would stand up and say, "No, I didn't pay my extra 10% tax, so I shouldn't get the drugs". It is a highly emotive topic - who wouldn't do anything to stay alive, at all costs, and we are looking at the subject with the dispassionate removal of people who, God willing, are 'hale and hearty' and are not in the dreadful position of fighting the government and health authorities for drugs that might keep them alive.
Yes, the money that is being poured, and pumped, into the NHS, is not being well spent apparently and pouring more into it will not change that fact.0 -
I suspect if people knew the full extent of returned medicines, which have either been wrongly prescribed, too many prescribed etc etc, they would find that the cost of these alone, would be enough to 'fund' many a so called wonder drug..Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0

Below are the results to our previous poll. Thanks to the 1463 participants who took part in this poll.
Previous Poll Topic: Poll started 30 May 2006. Should we pay for wonder-drugs for all? There's been huge debate around the NHS not prescribing new wonder drugs for eyesight or breast cancer to all, yet it could cost £4,000 to £20,000 a year per person and maybe 100,000s need them. Who pays? All of us, in higher taxes? (let’s ignore the role of the drugs companies). To test the view, let’s make it a stark choice; suppose we all needed to pay 10% extra tax to fund it... what would you say?
No. We have to accept there are limits, I won't pay more tax 54.6% - (800 Votes)
Yes. Health's too important even if income tax needed to rise 10% 45.1% - (661 Votes)
