Nuisance Phone Calls!!! Is it REALLY the CPWW?
extent

They keep calling the home phone, when I answer........... its just weird bleeping as if someone is trying to dial! I googled the number up- and many are claiming its the Carphone Warehouse, although with alot of people being asked for bank/billing details and that their main office is now in Africa, would suggest its a complete scam! lol
Theyd better not phone back, if they do and its someone wanting me to pay for a bill to a company Ive never even joined up with, they wont get a nice reply
Most bizarre of all, alot of the complaints I have found online are from as far back as 2006 or 2007, and its the same number that called me today with no-one on the other end! The number to avoid is 01925-555601. I should add that since my sister was once at this address, could well be the reason as to why this home number is on the CPWW's database.
I have emailed the CPWW to find out if its a geniune number of theirs.. perhaps its a bored member of staff going through their vast database of ex-users! If its a real CPWW number it, im sure the CPWW will insist its a 'mask number' for some scammers in africa-if thats possible?!
So if you get that number on your phone in the next few days, do not answer and DO NOT give any bank or customer details, no matter how much they insist!
edit- shouldve added it to the old thread, but didnt see it until the last min:-

It is a genuine Carphone Warehouse number ,usually used by their O2 retention deparment to see if you want to renew your contract. They do have South African Call Centres.0

ouch! How can you be sure? The oddest thing of all is surely the carphone warehouse not listing this number at all on any official page (as far as I can tell)... and googling this number alone comes up with a mere 2 pages, and every single one of them with this number is from a nuisance call or fraudulent phone number listing website, or from people mentioning that they are getting calls from a company claiming to be carphone warehouse, but there is nothing official on there.
If it was true, then from what it sounds like they're not that well trained, wherever theyre from- with the number of complaints linked to this line, you would think they would have better training in place. A large company that has to use (no doubt) poorly paid foreign staff (at the same time as being the 'number 1' sponsor of mainstream tv programmes such as both Big Brother and The X Factor around 2004) call people that arent even carephone customers- picking the line up to hear either meaningless computer/phone noise, or having genuine customers being called up to 14 times a day and/or given abuse back at them for not giving money over they dont even owe (noting some of the complaints) does raise plenty questions! ;( terrible.. very young foreign staff (ie teens) shouting back at customers ("yes, this is the head of CPWW in africa *snigger!*" ) and not caring a **** as long as they get paid and/or the customer pays? Possibly..
I found out my sister did buy a CPWW phone, but it wasnt contract- so yes, they may have had her on their database, but that was way back around 2003! perhaps they were trying to advertise and pressed the wrong button when I picked it up, to subject me to some odd noise instead, perhaps as punishment for not currently having a CPWW contract, lol0
