Energy Smart - http://www.energy-smart.org.uk/boilers_prices.asp - do a discounted range of boilers. I quite like the look of the Alpha CD24C condensing boiler to replace our old broken Ariston EuroCombi boiler.
Does anyone have any experience with the Alpha CD24C? Is it worth the extra money? Is it a good, reliable and easy to fit boiler? Will replacing the EuroCombi with an Alpha be a simple task?

Thanks :T

Can't comment on that particular boiler but Alpha have been recommended on this board by some of the pro heating people many times.
They are low cost compared to Vaillant etc, have a good guarentee and stainless steel heat exchanger.0 -
They say on their website they are about to give a 3 year guarantee as they have:
Alpha Cyclone
A wholly unique feature of all Alpha Condensing boilers is the Alpha Cyclone. This unit uses centrifugal force to separate rubbish from the water within the heating system. The Cyclone allows Alpha to offer a three year guarantee on all condensing boilers.
Is this really all they crack it up to be? Sounds great...0 -
I have just fitted two Alpha boilers and I was very impressed with them. There is a grant of approx £100 off the boiler from PTS on their Magic Boiler scheme. I found that it only cost an extra £70 to jump from 24kw to 32kw and this would increase your HW flow by 50%
All the best, Brian....0 -

"an extra £70 to jump from 24kw to 32kw and this would increase your HW flow by 50%"
Would the higher powered boiler be more efficient?0 -
Hi Monkey Writer, I have just noticed your post, I am at work and haven't time to answer right now. I will come back to you.........Brian.0

you would have the same effiency. But you would burn more gas because he burner is 8kw more. But this would only be so when in hot water mode, because in heating mode the burner modulates. This only uses sufficient gas to maintain your set temperature. I am sure you will apreciate the extra hot water flow with 32kw.............Brian0

but I guess if you are filling a sink the boiler burns brighter to produce a greater quantity of water - but you have it on for less time in order to fill that sink. So it comes out quicker but burns the same amount of gas for the sink of water?0

That's a good point monkey writer.............Brian0

i had an alpha combi boiler fitted 5 years ago been good, getrs serviced annually at a cost of about £30 and weve had one repair (a new main circuit board) at a cost of £150. quite pleased. It seems to be the circuirty that fails and they can be a big difference in the cost of parts between manufacturers.0
