I am getting adult only JSA, well is there one that takes into account your kids?

What about Income support for my wife because she doesnt get MA?

Any help appreciated, I just dont know how we can survive on such a small amount. This wont even cover bills let alone food.

This is the first time in my life I am so worried about putting food on the table.

There is no JSA that pays for children anymore. You really need to find out if you are getting JSA(c) or (ib) - the (ib) will potentially pay an amount for your wife (the couple rate).

Money for children is administered by HMRC in the form of tax credits. You need to either claim these or contact them to inform them of the change to your circumstances.

From what you have said, your wife does not fall into any proscribed group for income support.

What about Income support for my wife because she is too ill to work?

She is 12 weeks pregnant but very ill and bed bound.

The rules seem to be so complicated for pregnant jobseekers who dont qualify for any type of MA.

Are you getting HealthyStart vouchers, if you're income is low enough your wife and your child should both be getting vouchers, ring tax credits to check whether you're entitled. It sounds as if you'd be entitled to 2 x £3.10 vouchers a week - that's £6 for fresh milk, fruit or veg. Not a lot but it helps.

  • So much sympathy here, nice!
By being pregnant your partner no longer satisfies for Income Support, however if she has a med cert stating she is unfit for work as she is bedridden she may qualify for ESA. Regardless, if she is not working or receiving SMP or MA then you should be claiming JSA for both of you at a weekly rate of £100.95 (much better, no?), however savings or other income can affect your allowance, as mentioned.
Make sure you have claimed for your HB/CTB or mortgage payments if you have them.

She will be in a proscribed group in a week.
  • Sorry, i thought you said you already had another child?
If so then you are treated as a couple for JSA, sorry if i misunderstood :D

OP - if you answer the following questions, you may get some straight forward advice:

Do you have any savings - either of you?

Are you paying rent and/or council tax? If you rent, is it a private let or a council/housing association? If it's a private let, how many bedrooms do you have?

Is your OH receiving around £50 a week child tax credit?

Have you checked your wife is on your JSA claim?

Is you wife's illness pregnancy related or does she have another condition?
