Chasing wall out for new plug socket.

I have the same screwfix £40 SDS drill.
It works very well, but as noxon says, the chisel rotates- very slightly.
Not enough to cause problems, but enough to cause annoyance every few minutes if doing a big job.
And yes, zax47, that's by following the manual :-)0 -

You could hire a wall chaser from your local tool hire shop. Effectively its 2 angle grinders bolted together to 'chase out' the cable run in the wall. Makes hell of a mess thoughEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I cant fault it.0 -
ive got the cheap screwfix SDS. one of the best tools ive ever bought.
goes through masonary like red hot knife thro butter.
worth its weight in gold.Get some gorm.0 -
Not all SDS drills have hammer only...careful not to buy one that can't be used to chisel without rotation stop.
I see a lot of decent cheap SDS tools on car boots.

Agree with the rest, make sure the an SDS drill allows you the choice of rotate + hammer, hammer only, or rotate only. A rotating chisel is asking for trouble!0

How old is this house. When I had to chase out the old lime plaster I just used to drag a screw driver down the wall and the plaster just fell away. If it is the more modern cement rendering then it is a lot more difficult. I think that an SDS drill is probably a bit of an over-kill. Chain drilling can be very messy. In any event you are unlikely to succeed in cutting a chase with nice straight edges. Possibly you might if you use a disc cutter. But what a mess that makes. I think that I always managed with a lump hammer and bolster chisel. Certainly not worth buying a sds drill unless you have a further use for it.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
