Sony Vaio Laptops

I've decided to treat myself to a Sony Vaio laptop and have a couple of questions--
1/ They have various different series/models and I would like some advice on which would be best for my needs. It will be based in the lounge and will be used for the following;
- Storing a large amount of MP3's (and playing them through my amplified sound system)
- Hooking up to the TV/digibox to record programmes to the hard drive and record to DVD (is it possible to record straight from the TV or do I have to have a TV receiver? As I would like to be able to record and archive memorable events on Sky News...)
- Editing video from my Sony handycam
- General internet & email use from the comfort of the sofa
I know I'll need a decent sized hard drive and probably a gig of memory to help with the editing, but which of the series/models is best for my needs?
...and for question 2, the obvious one...
Where can I find the best prices?
Many thanks in advance for any replies.

To record tv on a laptop.
Make sure you have a FAST hd , PLENTY of ram and a HARDWARE based mp2 encoder/tuner of some sort either in pcmcia or usb2.Plenty of processor power too.
Better off forgetting sony then and opting for another altogether , maybe even a mac.0
