dvd recorder problem

I previously had the Technika dvd recorder from tesco, but due to various problems took it back last week. One of the problems was a dark vertical shadow the whole height of the screen, approx 2" wide, which goes across the screen from left to right continuously, and also records, when the tv is switched to the AV2 to record. I assumed this was the technika dvd recorder that was causing this problem and this was one of the reasons for returning. I did phone the Technika helpline but the suggestions did not work.
I now have the Tevion dvd recorder (from aldi last week) and find I have the same shadow problem so it must be something I am doing or a fault on my tv.
Has anyone had this problem?
I do not have an ariel coming to my tv just sky everything comes through the sky channel. I have my sky connected to the AV1 in my tv and to the dvd recorder, I have the dvd recorder connected to the AV2 in my tv. I have to record via the source button on the dvd and change to record from scart. I have tried swopping from AV1 to AV2 but it made no difference, only kept switching the tv to AV1 and as I only connect the dvd recorder to record this was no good.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks.

no experience with dvd recorders but i imagine it is the same as vcrs.
you could try linking sky-dvd recorder then the output from this to the tv. the only thing being you need the dvd on to watch sky.
i think you may be getting "feedback" of some sort by connecting the way are.fatblokexl:EasterBun:0 -
Can anyone explain how I would connect dvd to scart and tv as I am not sure what to connect to what and how many scarts I will need. I am currently using 2 scart leads from both dvd and sky connecting to tv. Also just realised my AV sender is connected to sky as well.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I use video out on $ky box to scart 2 on dvd recorder (a philips) and scart 1 on dvd recorder to tv. also tv out on sky box to tv. This has the advantage with some dvd recorders that you can set the sky personal planner to autoview which will automatically start and stop recording on the dvd.
Hope this helps0 -
I have tried and still have the same shadowing problem. My set out is as follows:-
Brinky, was not sure which on my sky was scart 1 and scart 2, (its a grundig sky box) my sky has a tv scart and a vcr scart, the tv scart (along with the AV sender) is connected to AV1 on tv and the vcr is connected to the dvd input scart. my dvd output scart is connected to AV2 on tv, also coming from sky to tv (not sure whether this is even needed) is an ariel lead connecting the two.
Any more suggestions would be appreciated.
