MOT Retest

Hi can anyone help???

I was most recently told by my garage that my MOT was due to run out on 28 Oct 09. Stupidly without checking my paperwork believed them, booked an MOT with a different garage, who tested and my car past!!! However, when I found my old MOT certificate it doesn't actually run out until March 2010!!!! Is there anything I can do? I have just retested my car when it actually had another 5 months left.

Surely the new garage should have picked up on the fact that it still had 5 months left as its all computerised now?

Am really annoyed with myself for not checking first!

Don't think theirs anything you can do now I'm afraid. Lesson learnt though. Just because a garage says your mot is running out doesn't mean you shouldn't check. Think you know that now though. Atleast it passed eh

Thanks, not wanted I wanted to hear though! I really thought the garage would have pulled the details up on the computer and spotted that it still had MOT.

As you say lesson learnt never gonna take someones words again, without checking for myself!!!!

I'm no expert so still worth waiting for one of the other guys to answer.

Just think its ones of those things. You're right though, with it all being digitalised nowadays you would have thought this kind of mistake wouldn't happen!

It's not for them to check, it's for you.

You could have requested a new MOT for any numnber of reasons, e.g. planning to sell the vehicle, going abroad for a few months, etc.

It would show on the computer that there was already an MOT,but depending on garage as to wether they contact you to let you know,
did they have your contact number?

I put a WAV in for its test yesterday and they called me to say it had some MOT left(more than a month) and what should they do?I just said go ahead and do it anyway

but at the end of the day you asked the garage to MOT it for you and that is what they have done,so sorry no comeback

the most you can get mot wise is 13 months

If they hadn't reminded you and you left it till april you could have got a fine. Both ways it's important to check

An officail gov dept has now said your car is fine

are they just using an out of date in house record, i doubt they are searching the mot database

Thanks for all of the above, I know at the end of the day it was down to me to check, could really kick myself for the stupid mistake believe me!

If it had been a month left no problem, but 5 months was a bit gutted and just thought the garage may have picked it up. Could really have done without £54 this side of Christmas especially when it wasn't needed.

And yes the garage had my contact number.

Oh well, lesson learnt!!!!!!
