Student Loan - overseas repayment

I've got one of those horrendous new styley student loans (12k ish) to pay back for the rest of my life. So far i've been making the minimum payments on it from my wage and putting some money aside in a 4.5% apr savings account (which i may end up putting on a house deposit :o). I'm also looking at getting an ISA before anyone mentions it!

It looks as though i may end up in the USA for a couple of years where i'll have to find a job and, according to the Student Loans Company, make repayments directly to them.

Has anyone done this (or knows anybody who has done this)? I'm wondering if the repayments will still be worked out the same based on my new job (thresholds and what not) and how they'll deal with stuff like $ vs £s and whether i lose more tax now.

I could ask SLC but they can be a bit fluffy when it comes to questions that aren't 'When will i get my student loan?'

All/any help will be appreciated - thanks

With the currency conversion in mind, do you think you'll be earning over the £15K threshold? Either way, I'd imagine all you need from the SLC is an address to send proof of your salary. Send it in a way you can verify you sent it later and let them worry about the rest.

Thanks for your reply. I can't see why i won't be earning over the threshold and sending the forms seems easy but i want to to get screwed over on currency conversion and tax rates.

I think i'm going to have to write some letters to the SLC and ask (i try to avoid phoning them!).

    cheers!
