  • Phone the Catnic lintels help line with all the details and they can spec a suitable lintel.

Regarding building regs, submit a building notice a few days before the work begins and it's up to them to come and see the job. Make sure you don't plaster over it until they've seen it though.

As for value, I doubt it'll affect it one way or the other. If you think it's a good idea, others will too.

Sounds like you know what YOU want to do, BUT.....

Assuming it's your first home together, why not initially decorate it to YOUR tastes, live in it for a while, THEN see what changes would suit YOUR living style, after you've got used to it.

The £$£$ saved might well be better spent in other areas, anyway.

As for added value, probably not - in fact could be opposite & make it hard to sell, in some areas. Certainly in Luton, I was told by my Asian friends NOT to do it, as they have the sense to have a room for the menfolk to be in & a seperate one for the ladies, when they have to entertain!!

What I did, though, in a similar sitution, was make the opening, but left it with the suggested option of fitting double doors between.

  • Hi there

Personally I would suggest moving in first as it is. Enjoy your home and enjoy Christmas and see how you get on living with the house the way it is. If after a few months you decide that you want to make the change then why not consider it then? You may actually find that you like the house the way it is now. Why go through with the work when you don't know if it will work for you once its done.

Good luck with whatever you decide and ENJOY your home :j
