Intensive driving lessons?
So called "crash courses" in driving- anyone used these??
I learnt before uni, didnt take my test..lived etc etc..theory now expired. I do drive occasionally with mum in the car etc with my provisional license and plates. Soon as I pass can look at houses with OH..so really want to do it quickly.. going to take auto also to pass quick as poss..we would like to move in 2010
So crash courses- 6 hours a day for 5 days, effective?? or am I better off doing 2 lessons a week for 6 weeks?? cost works out about £660(including theory and test) for a week,or £30 per 1.5 hour tuition:eek:
Any advice would be appriciated
Thanks in advance

as you have driven before - it will probably be ok if you have enough experience - how many lessons did you have before uni?
are you used to using the gears and clutch - if so then I don't think the learning curve would be much less with a manual and you have more choice of cars in the future
their is a topic here about automatic vs. manual if you want to read it0 -
yeah I am used to driving manual, however my family only drive auto so inheriting cars will all be auto. Speed is of the essence..we dont want to be living apart another year
maybe 40 lessons, I drive confidently in london with a driver with me. no probs.
Cheers, will check out the thread

40 lessons??
In that case I'd just get a couple of lessons with an independent instructor. I'm sure if you've had that many lessons you're a competent driver and just need a refresher. Why not have 2 or 3 lessons and see how it goes. If you feel like you're not getting anywhere then think about intensive courses.
In regards to the Auto test. I had an auto car when I was 17 as I inherited it from my gran when she stopped driving. I took my auto test just so I could be driving my car whilst learning in a manual. I wish I never had now though. It took me ages to get round to doing my manual test. Also, if I hadn't had my manual licence when looking for a new car then I would have been very limited as to what I could get. I would definitely suggest just taking another 5 lessons and take your manual test instead of having to potentially do a manual test in a few years time when you get bored of autos. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
If you have some experience and want to get through the test quickly, then fine.
If you are coming at it learning to drive for the first time then I wouldn't recommend them. Go for the more usual 2 hours a week approach.
When I started learning I found the first half-dozen lessons very stressful and tiring, a lot to take in when you aren't used to it. So I think any more often than every week wouldn't have been useful for me as I wouldn't have had time to calm myself!0
