Bathroom clean tips please

ok - the reason toilets have lids - so when you flush the faeces etc dont get sprayed over the bathroom!
its been proved that if you flush with toilet lid up particles of toilet contents (sh*t etc) can get sprayed into the air up to two feet away.
now - do you understand why us women prefer it if seats and lids are down?0 -
I do a 'swish and swipe' of my toilet every morning - it takes less time than cleaning my teeth - most of it is done one-handed while mouth-washing
.
A couple of pieces of dampened toilet paper and wipe:
- across the top of the toilet cistern,
- around the front and sides,
- toilet lid
- the bit inbetween the cistern and lid. Chuck it in the toilet!
Another couple of pieces, dampened again, and wipe:
- inside the toilet lid,
- the toilet seat,
- under the toilet seat,
- around the top/rim of the bowl. Chuck it in the toilet, lid down and flush.
When flush has finished, I squirt some SmartPrice Toilet Cleaner (26p) into the bowl and that makes it smell quite pleasant. It gets scrubbed and bleached last thing at night (with the brush left soaking in the bleach/water in the pan - just have to look carefully if you go the loo in the middle of the night , so I know the bowl is clean in the morning.
My toilet is approx 1ft from my bathroom radiator - if we don't flush with the lid down, it gets sprayed with water. Didn't realise when we first moved in, until I noticed rusty marks on the radiator .
Most of the time there's only 2 of us here, plus we have a downstairs loo, so the upstairs one doesn't get used very much at all - similar routine in there every morning as well (without the mouthwash).0 -

CAN and UP TO are not guarantees. The water would have to be coming out pretty hard for it to bounce up to 2 feet.now - do you understand why us women prefer it if seats and lids are down?
NoIf you believe your toilet will chuck sh*t around your bathroom, then I understand that you would want to put the lid down while you flush after having a sh*t. But why should it be down for the rest of the time when you are not flushing it.

You don;t understand much about aerosols do youI won;t bother saying any more as I know how important it is for you to have the last word
ETA, I've just spotted your homepage; I thought you'd be more sympathetic to the views of us ladies :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

I understand that the words CAN and UP TO mean it will only happen under certain circumstances.Penelope_Penguin wrote: »I won;t bother saying any more as I know how important it is for you to have the last word
Being a woman you would understand that very wellPenelope_Penguin wrote: »ETA, I've just spotted your homepage; I thought you'd be more sympathetic to the views of us ladies :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I am sympathetic, I just don't understand how you can fool yourselves into being happy about a lid being down.
A lid that is down when you walk into the toilet is not proof it was down when the toilet was flushed. How many people put the lid down as the last thing they do before they leave the bathroom, just to keep "someone else" happy? It will fool "someone else" every time.0 -
geordie joe - i hope you keep your toothbrush in a closed cabinet more than 6 FEET away from your toilet as toilet germs can actually be srayed up to 6 feet away when flushing the loo0

I bought a pack of Toothbrush Covers from Asda - four in a pack for around £2.00 - similar to these: http://www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk/shop/index.php?page=335&offset=5&ret=10
I think they're supposed to be for travelling really, but we use them all the time as I'm very conscious of the 'toilet flush/toothbrush' worry - even though everybody is under instruction to put the lid down before flushing.0 -
jeez geordie joe I hope you got your own bathroom!!! when i say can and up to I meant what has been scientifically proved. this is in lab conditions. as i have no idea how powerfully your toilet flushes i gave the minimum distances which have been proved scientifically in laboratory.
apparently - as another poster has said some toilets will spray water droplets (and they are droplets - you wouldnt necessarily notice them) up to six feet away.
I prefer to use my toothbrush safe in the knowledge that it has NOT recieved a fine spray of urine faeces and/or bleach!
maybe i am overly fussy - but thats the way i am!!!0 -

Just been and checked, the top of the sink and the top of the cistern are at an equal hight. The distance between the sink and the cistern is three finger widths, my toothbrush on on the at the side nearest the cistern.
I'm 50 years old, all my life my toothbrush has been in much the same place and I have come to no harm. Neither have my parents, three sisters, two brothers ex-wife, kids and grand kids.
In fact, nobody I have ever known has done anything to protect their toothbrushes, and they have come to no harm.
The fact that "Scientists" now tell us that bacterea can get thrown around the bathroom when you flush does not alter the fact that IF IT DOES, IT HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR 200 YEARS!0 -

You'll have to point me to these test as I can't find them.apparently - as another poster has said some toilets will spray water droplets (and they are droplets - you wouldnt necessarily notice them) up to six feet away.
Well, I have lived in several houses and not one of them had a bathroom big enough for the toilet to be 6 feet away from the toothbrush, and it's never done me any harm.I prefer to use my toothbrush safe in the knowledge that it has NOT recieved a fine spray of urine faeces and/or bleach!

You are perfectly entitled to do whatever you want in your own home, I have no problem with that. I just think that this was never a problem, until a certain company tried to sell us a thing to hang in the toilet to kill germs, by telling us the toilet sprays out all manner of nasty things when you flush it.
It wasn't harming us when we didn't know about it, so why should it harm us now we have been told about it.0
