How can I find out if someone has been made bankrupt?

I have rented a property to someone who has turned out to be a far from perfect tenant having left the bills unpaid for over a year, trashed the property and rent arrears. Main thing is we now have the property back, at last!
However the tenant was apprently bankrupt, wasn't declared to us despite been a question on application form to rent. I want to check this out. Found a website but it only goes back 3 months. I suspect tenant was bankrupt a few years ago but really need to check this out.
Any help on how I can find out?
Thanks so much.

If the tenant was BR a few years ago you would still be able to claim back the money they owe you. Unless they plan to go BR again0 -

How does that work if you don't mind me asking. The Op wrote that there was a question on the paperwork to rent and possibly wasn't declared bankrupcy. That tells me that the OP thinks that s/he went bankrupt before they rented their property therefore the rent arrears would not be included because it was a debt incurred after bankruptcy.
Am I right? Have I missed something and made myself look like a plank again!?0 -

Yes. That is what I meant. The only reason I can think of the OP checking on the BR is because they want to try and reclaim some of their expenses - trashed house, unpaid bills, rent arrears. I was merely pointing out that they could go ahead and do this as a BR years ago would not be any reason for the tenant to dodge out of what they now owe the OP. Lets face it if they have wrecked a house they aint gonna care that they lied on an application form.
They would only not be able to claim back any money if the tenant was to now make themselves BR again. Which is unlikely0 -
OP has to find the miscreant first, then prove he did the damage, not that easy0

Very true. But there is no other reason I can think of why he would be so interested in finding out if the tenant was once BR.0 -

Thanks all.
I agree, they aren't going to care that they lied on an application form but I guess I just wanted to know for peace of mind and then to ascertain whether I do ever have any chance of getting any money from them!
Am well shot of them so probably just have to write it off as a bad experience.0
