Thanks for that. Found the person in question and they became bankrupt whilst living at my property but listed a different address as their address on the register.

Anyway given they are bankrupt I guess there is no way of getting anything from them. Typical!

Out of interest does anyone know if there is a way of finding out who they owed money to i.e. mortgage co or is this confidential?

H becks , if they owed you money at the time of the of the bankruptcy you should ring or write to the Official Receiver an declare that you are a creditor. You should then receive a report to creditors. If you think that they have lied about their address ou should report this too.

    Hi Becks,

I feel sorry for you that you have had this trouble with a tenant - a close relative of mine has a couple of rented properties, and has had a similar occurance - he says the frustration is the worst bit.

However, please don't fall into the trap of thinking that bankrupts always make bad tenants. In a lot of cases, the removal of debt committments mean that bankrupts are more able to keep to their rent committments that they were previously, and bankrupts are no more likely to trash the property that any other tenant; they may even be better tenants, as they know their choice of landlord/property will be more restrictive :)

Becks, sounds like you've had an awful time of it, you're well rid!
i agree with tinytim though, i hope you don't think all bankrupts are like this! i think the issue here is more that your tenant was a selfish irresponsible slob!
i wish you the best of luck in the future and hope you find a suitable tenant in future x
