Onetel overcharging on international calls

Some Ontel users have reported substantial overcharging when using dial through providers (where you dial an access phone number to reach the network) as listed in the CallChecker

We've been in touch with the Onetel press office and they have advised customers were being charged £0.50 instead of £0.005.

They have promised that all customers who have been overcharged will have a refund added to the account by at least the June bill and if this exceeds the amount spend in June it will carry over until used up.

If it comes to June and you still have not received a refund, please PM me with your account details and I will chase it up for you. (PM me by clicking on my name to the left of this post and then clicking on send Private Message. You need to be a registered chat forum user to do this).

There is of course no longer any old Onetel owned by Centrica but only big nasty and evil CarPhoneWarehouse group who also own TalkTalk and of which OneTel is now a part.

Based on my time with TalkTalk as a landline and mobile (Fresh) customer this company simply cannot be trusted to bill reliably and on landline they frequently billed me for numbers called but not answered that were not charged if I used the 1280 override code to route the call with BT and on Fresh I began receiving phantom calls that I had never made at a time when the mobile phone in question had been broken and out of use for two months.

CPW group seem to regard misbilling their customers as a completely routine practice and useless jokers Ofcom yet again think it is perfectly ok so long as the errors are corrected after a lot of customer pressure and complaints. No question of a big fine or losing their telecoms license though.

OfCoN seem to exist only as a form of charter for the major scammers of the uk telecoms industry of which CarPhoneWareHouse group are currently seemingly at the leading edge.;)
  • I was very interested to read your notes about Talk Talk. On my latest bill they have charged me £12 for two calls to 0905 numbers. They tell me this was via an internet connection which I must have accepted. The connections were made at a time when I was out and nobody else has a key to my home or access to my telephone/computer. They have itemised two calls at approx.5 mins each, an hour apart. Is there anything you can suggest I can do, the bill has not been paid yet and £12 is a lot to me. Many thanks. DC
