Help Needed
Hi All
7 years ago I had a debt with powergen/eon of approx £1000, they made me have a electricity meter installed and set it to take the arrears as well as the electricity I use. 24 months later I recieved a bill stating that I owed £90 (arrears). Then the following statment showed £1000 arrears. Apparantly when they had put the electricity up my meter had not been changed and therefore I was back to where I started. The last bill/statment in 2009 I recieved I had spent £1700 in the previous 12 months and £60 of the outstanding amount.
Can I change suppliers as I cannot afford my electricity, my husband works and earns 17k a year which covers our mortgage and council tax. And I cannot afford the amount the meter takes especially when it is not paying o0ff the debt. Ifeel trapped. We do not have gas and I am going to have to use electric radiators in winter as I have a six month old baby, but will not be able to afford to have them on. Please help do I have any other options?
Kind Regards Viki

Hi Viki,
To clarify a few points, the original debt built up from a credit meter so E.ON fitted a pre payment meter.
The debt of £1000 was set on the pre-payment meter for you to pay back weekly.
You managed to pay off most of the debt, just leaving £90 to go.
You then get a bill saying you owe £1000 again, have E.ON said this was due to re-calibration (the meter not being up dated with current correct prices) of the meter or are they saying that the original debt was never set on the meter correctly?

Hi Helena
Thanks fo your reply, no the original debt built up due to non payment of bills, and then they installed a prepayment meter to recover the debt. Yes according to our statment we had paid of the majority of the debt but I am unsure now if it was due to to re-calibration of the meter or the original debt was never set on the meter correctly.
Thanks Viki0
