Advice re suspending or cancelling a car insurance

It 's my first post but can anyone help. My son has been driving since march and after having an ear operation last month he had a fit 4 days later. He never had a fit before an isn't on any drugs for epilepsy.
Two things we need to sort one being dvla and license e.g will he get 6 or 12 mth before his license is back. Second thing is his insurance is it best to cancel or suspend it? He is currently paying a fortune £175 a month but if he cancels it he will be back to zero no claims, if he suspends it will they give him the 1yrs nc discount at renewal and does he have to go back to the same insurers for this?

How much is his car worth?
What will happen if it's stolen or damaged without insurance?
Is the vehicle parked off road? If not it needs to have insurance and what will happen when the tax expires?

£2k ish. I was going to see could I insure the vehicle. It will be parked on the driveway but I would need to move it off the drive to get to my car. Its taxed for 12 mths till 1st Oct 2010

If you suspend the policy then at renewal you get the full year's NCD (assuming no claims are made) which you can take to another insurer. (Plus a refund for the period of suspension).

It will be valid generally for 2 years (should it be a while before he is back on the road due to anything unforseen turning up whilst he's recovering).

I don't really know. But am I right in thinking he is going to have to declare his medical condition? And do you know if/when he is going to get his licence back?

I suspect if those are the cases you would be as well cancelling the policy as there would appear to be too many unknows. Personally I wouldn't like to talk to an insurance company until you know how this is going to pan out.

There would be nothing worse than going off half !!!! and having insurance refused or cancelled by the company.

He will have to go a set amount of time without a fit (or it being under control) before he is allowed to drive again.
