Don't mix the Vaux stuff with other antifreeze. Later antifreeze is a long life, and can occasionally jellify with other types of older antifreeze.

vw's g12 pink stuff is different, they dont recommed it to be used where the old blue stuff usually goes in. and vice versa.

level has been that low since i had cambelt and water pump change in june.
Car is Y reg (2001) Astra SRi 52,000 miles, had major service in june (has FVSH)

the coolant has actually been changed twice this year first being when the thermostat was changed and second mentioned above.

No overheating problems, has gone to feel a little less responsive in the past few weeks tho.

    Hello,
I have two astras (me & OH) and have been topping it up with the Tesco own make 'READT MIX' coolant for years with no problems. Like you, my original coolant was pink and the tesco is blue but it is absolutely fine and it only cost around £1.99 - £2.99 for a bottle.

On another note, I'm about to get the cambelt replaced on the two astras. Can you tell me how much it cost you and where you got it done?

    Thanks

Buy the pink coolant from Vauxhall's and do not mix it with water for goodness sake! Water in an emergency yes, but put in the correct coolant for your car's sake. Ignore the cheapskates on here and keep your car healthy, it will pay in the end.

Vauxhall 5 litre antifreeze is supplied 'neat' you are supposed to dilute it 50:50 with water.
Perhaps you meant to say "don't just add water to your existing coolant in the car" which I would agree with especially at this time of the year.

    That's alright then.... :D

One has to be cautious - guess i was in my Toyota/Lexus mode for a moment there, coolant should not be mixed with water (ideally)... and their pink is long life (and more expensive.. naturally..)

I'm going to bed now before I have anymore blonde moments... ;):o
