try it in a different comp

if it still doesn't work, drop it in a bin and buy a new one.

not much to be done with them if they die I'm afraid :(

ah, well that's a bit of a different story then :)

what does it (or doesn't it) do when you put it in your comp??

if it does nothing (and I mean you don't even get the Windows notification that 'hardware not installed...' blah), then try a different usb device and confirm that your usb ports are still working.

Do a repair install of your operating system

I would also suggest after doing a repair install that you add sp2 to your system and get upto date.

Ok first thing to do is get SP2 https://www.windowsupdate.com

And also just make sure their isnt a latch that locks the drive, have a look on the side of the drive, somewhere on the player maybe.

Yes I would have suggested updating to sp2 first, however to do a repair install they would need an sp2 disk if the situation still didn't work..

I recently purchased a 1gb mp3 player that would only work when doing a repair install of xp pro sp2.

You could always save SP2 from MS and save to disk :)

I already created a xp pro sp2 slipstreamed and integrated driver, tweaks, hot fixes etc many moons ago.

I have a system that was created in September 2001 and has never been formatted and works fine as we speak.

I treat my system like a beautiful Woman, with love care and plenty of attention

    Use various tools.

Been to elder geek a time for policy problem, which I sorted myself.

    nLite I prefer.

Autopatcher XP from the boys at neowin also comes in handy!
