returning DVD player to Amazon.

Hello all,
Could do with some advice on returning a DVD player to Amazon that I bought last week for about £30 (with free postage.)
I had some problems, so reported it as faulty. Amazon sent a replacement player (with 'upgraded postage').
Same problems with second player. After a lot of fiddling and experimenting, have got it working now. I think the instruction manual is really bad for not explaining what to do, but it's likely there's nothing wrong with the original player itself.
I'm worried now about what Amazon will charge me. I guess I have 3 options now:
I did call Amazon to enquire, and the lady said that if it tests as no fault found, I'd just be charged for the replacement player + shipping costs, but she wasn't able to say how much the shipping would be.
I'm hesitant because I've had a past bad experience with an electrical retailer (Scan). I returned a £32 item which turned out not to be faulty. I had to pay £11 for the courier collection, £10 for their testing costs, and £7 to have it posted back to me - nearly 100% of the value of the item. If this is likely to happen to me again, I'd be better off just paying to keep the second player....
Any thoughts gratefully received!
Matt.

- continue to return the original player as faulty, via Amazon's courier collection service.
- continue to return the original player as faulty, via Royal mail.
- keep both players (in which case Amazon will bill me for the second DVD player + postage.)

How long was it after you received it before you sent it back? Could say you make a mistake and wanted to return it under the DSR?0

It's within 7 days. I haven't actually returned either player yet (Amazon sent the replacement immediately without waiting for the original one back.)
Unfortunately I've open both DVD players though, do you think that would affect my refund?
If this is OK, it might be my best option, because Amazon say they refund the original shipping costs when an order is cancelled (so I can cancel the order for the replacement player, which they automatically sent with expidited postage.)
So my only loss would be my return postage costs, which would be a pretty good outcome at this point...

Opening is ok. As long as everything is there and is still in saleable condition.0 -
Excellent, thanks! I'll give it a go. This may be less of a headache than I thought.0
